Thailand starts shipping the first of 800,000 tablets to local students

Thailand has had plans to roll-out tablets for use in education for some time now, so it is to no surprise that the country's government has begun to ship first of 800,000 Android tablets to local students.

The Thai government first pushed out a program for 860,000 tablets back in March, and went onto contract Chinese company Shenzhen Scope Scientific Development to develop a 7-inch tablet at a cost of $81. This figure would put government spending on the project at just under $70 million.

These tablets are said to be geared up for primary school students, with the Thai government now reportedly shipping the first of these tablets, according to The Bangkok Post. The source says that 55,000 devices were shipped last week, with the government hoping to ship all 800,000 tablets to students free of charge by the end of the year.
